Culture struggle

Contrary to Georg Brandes, the philosopher Rasmus Nielsen did not think that there was a necessary conflict between Christianity and Darwinism.

From 1870 to 1875, J.P. Jacobsen translated Origin of Species and Descent of Man to Danish. Simultaneously, he wrote a series of articles about Darwinism for the high-brow Danish monthly Nyt Dansk Maanedsskrift. Jacobsen became part of the circle surrounding the literary critic Georg Brandes who used the theory of evolution in his fight against Christianity. The bishop D.G. Monrad attacked Darwinism while another Christian, the professor of philosophy Rasmus Nielsen did not see a contradiction between Christianity and Darwinism.
