Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace’s shared publication of the evolutionary theory on July 1st 1858 did not create much of a stir, when they were read aloud in the Linnean Society in London. Later that year, they were collectively published, but that did not attract any particular attention either. It was not until Darwin’s publication of On the Origin of Species that the evolutionary theory through natural selection finally got its scientific and public breakthrough.
