Jonas Sigismund Collin (1840-1905)

Science writer, MSc zoology 1866, state consultant of oyster fishing 1870-1905.

Jonas Collin, who was known as a travel companion of the writer Hans Christian Andersen, was a regular reviewer of scientific literature in the conservative newspaper Dagbladet. On 4 November 1874, he wrote a critical review of the Danish translation of Descent of Man. Dagbladet remained sceptical of Darwinism throughout the 1880s, primarily because the theory was associated with the atheist radical-liberal intelligentsia in Copenhagen.
