The celebration of Darwin in 1909

Portraits of a grey-haired Charles Darwin with the characteristic full beard appeared on the cover of numerous newspapers and magazines in February 1909. Here in the popular magazine Frem.

Around 12 February 1909, the centennial of Charles Darwin’s birth was celebrated with portraits and articles in most of the Danish newspapers and magazines. Darwin was celebrated as an outstanding scientist while opinions on the significance of his theory of evolution by natural selection were divided.
